Introductory Series: This is a step-by-step process designed to establish newcomers to yoga in the fundamentals of practice. (This is not a pre-requisite for taking Level 1 classes.) The course lays the foundation for practice and prepares participants for Level I classes. General concepts such as establishing the foundation, and building a safe and stable architecture in the postures will be covered. This course is ideal for students new to yoga and/ or those seeking to deeply understand how to do the postures with the maximum safety and effectiveness.
Level 1: This is both for students new to yoga and for those wishing to deepen their understanding of the fundamentals of practice. This class emphasizes standing postures and beginning inversions such as Salambha Sarvangasana (shoulder stand). (Several sessions are recommended before moving on to Level 2)
Level 2: This class is recommended for students who are well practiced in Level 1 postures—especially the standing postures and Salambha Sarvangasana. Sirsasana (headstand), backbends, and other intermediate postures are introduced at this level.
Level 3: At least one year of practice (including one, 7-week-or-more Level 2 session) required. Students must be able to hold 5-minute Sirsasana (headstand) and Salambha Sarvangasana (shoulder stand), push up into Urdhva Dhanurasana (full back arch) and go into Adho Mukha Vrksasana (handstand) (at the wall) without assistance. Students are also expected to have an established personal practice.
Gentle: A less rigorous class focusing on more supported, and often passive, postures to create a more restorative and rejuvenating practice.
Intensive Program: This is a series of classes designed for students wishing to deepen their practice and explore all categories of asana more thoroughly. Interest in developing a personal or “home” practice is encouraged. To this end, we will cover varying approaches to sequencing and methodology—from up-tempo practices demanding rigor and precision, to slower, more methodical practices yielding a more meditative state, and many things in between. Some Introductory yoga philosophy will be introduced and explored within the context of practice as well. Students must be reasonably physically fit with no injuries or therapeutic needs, prepared to work on inversions, and ready to make a strong commitment to their practice. (Recommended for Level 2 or above).
