SPECIAL SESSIONS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Surya Namaskar: The Sun-Salutation is a vigorous and brisk sequence of poses often performed in quick succession and jumping from pose to pose. In this class we will begin with the traditional sequence of movements and then add postures from other categories to form a well-rounded and vitalizing practice. (For continuing Level 1 students and above.)

Intermediate/ Advanced Asana: Minimum 1 year of regular (at least 3 times per week) yoga practice required and/ or attendance in Level 2 class or higher at LTY. Students must be able to hold Sirsasana (headstand) and Sarvangasana (shoulder-stand) for at least 3 minutes, push up into Urdhva Dhanurasana (full back arch), be able to work Padmasana (lotus posture) safely, and go into Adho Mukha Vrksasana (handstand) at the wall.

Restorative Yoga: A must for any well-rounded yoga practice.  Restorative yoga teaches and encourages the art of resting on all levels and in all systems of the body.  This class uses a wide variety of props to assist students in holding the asanas with ease (and sometimes effortlessly) for up to several minutes at a time. Some basic pranayama (regulation of the breath) techniques will also be explored. All levels welcome. *Class size is limited to 12 students.

Developing a Home Practice: This class will meet for three consecutive Sundays and focus on assisting students who would like to develop a self-guided practice. A wide variety of topics will be discussed for doing the work both on and off the mat required to practice at home. Sample practices and sequences will be discussed and explored. Please bring a notebook and something to write with.
